I chose this TED talk about infidelity because it really does sum up the whole reason Fitzgerald decided to write the Great Gatsby. Cheating is what really killed Gatsby. Cheating ruins lives you could say. In the video, Perel mentioned happy couples cheat because they are bored and want something different, but, were Daisy and Tom really happy? I do not think so, I do not even think they really loved each other at all. If Tom had not cheated on Daisy though, Gatsby would have not been killed, and he could have gotten his green light. Perel also mentioned that nowadays cheating is much easier to do and harder to keep secret due to the internet. Well, how did Tom cheat so easily without the internet and how did so many people, even Daisy find out?
I feel like the TED talk does not really relate to the American Dream at all. Affairs and infidelity is the complete opposite from the American Dream, but it does occur a lot in America. This TED talk gives more of an insight as to why what happened in the Great Gatsby, happened.
